Welcome to TransRift Energy
Livelihood means a person’s ability to earn a living. It is about so much more than just income. It is about everything that makes an impact on a person’s life – education, health and access to food all play a vital role. It is sustainable when it enables people to enhance their well-being and that of future generations without undermining the natural environment or resource base. We at TransRift Energy are seeking to use innovative offerings to help provide livelihood to the common wananchi especially women and youth to promote sustainable economic growth.
In most rural areas, firewood is the main source of cooking fuel while in urban areas it is charcoal. It is estimated that
more than 80 per cent of urban households use charcoal while more than 90 per cent of rural households use firewood for cooking and heating (Ministry of Energy, 2002). This dependence on wood fuel is likely to continue as the demand is projected to rise in step with the increasing population and urbanisation
“One hour of using firewood has the same health impacts as smoking a packet of cigarettes.”
Global climatic change (higher temperatures, prolonged droughts and dry spells.)
Deforestation and land degradation.
